Remedy for poison ivy rash
The best type of relief is prevention, but that’s easier said than done. Poison ivy treatment is simple. Local anesthetic agents such as calamine lotion have also been shown to bring relief for some people. The contagion is in the oil on the plant. If the oil is spread, the allergens are spread. You can get the oil on your skin by:
• Touching the poison ivy plant
• Touching any clothing, including shoes, that have come in contact with the plant.
• Touching any gardening tools that may have the oil on it.
The pentadecylcatechols of the oleoresin within the sap of poison-ivy and related plants causes the allergic reaction; the plants produce a mixture of pentadecylcatechols, which collectively is called urushiol.
