About ectopic pregnancies

An ectopic pregnancy is a life-threatening condition that requires emergency treatment. The ectopic pregnancy symptoms typically occur six to eight weeks after the last normal menstrual period, but they may occur later if the ectopic pregnancy is not located in the Fallopian tube.
However, the pregnancy may sometimes be removed using laparoscopy, a less invasive surgical procedure. The surgeon makes small incisions in the lower abdomen and then inserts a tiny video camera and instruments through these incisions. The image from the camera is shown on a screen in the operating room, allowing the surgeon to see what’s going on inside of your body without making large incisions. A procedure called culdocentesis is occasionally used to aid in diagnosing ectopic pregnancy.
